Policeman hit by car at M7 accident scene expected to recover
The Metro police officer remains under the care of two specialist surgeons at Netcare St Anne’s Hospital in Pietermaritzburg
THE Metro police officer, who was injured while directing traffic at a multiple accident scene on the M7 accident last week, is still in hospital in Pietermaritzburg.

According to Rescue Care Paramedics spokesman, Sheldon Lombard, paramedics tended to eThekwini Metropolitan Police Constable, Gerard Lecordier, who was allegedly struck while directing traffic away from the scene while the vehicles involved in the accident scene were recovered on Friday, 12 March.
Speaking from his hospital bed, Lecordier described the morning when he and a colleague responded to the major accident scene.

“When my partner and I saw that the police were already controlling the accident scene, we set up a perimeter to direct traffic towards a detour,” he said in a voice note from his hospital bed.
Lecordier is one of the many people injured on the M7 Durban bound, between Main Road and Bellville Road, last week.
He was hit and dragged. The place where he was hit was over 100 metres from the main accident scene where casualties were being extricated from at least 10 vehicle wreckages.

Lecordier, speaking exclusively to the Highway Mail said he is grateful to have escaped from the accident with his life.
He remains under the care of two specialist surgeons at Netcare St Anne’s Hospital in Pietermaritzburg where he was airlifted to from the scene of the accident. He says he is expecting to make a good recovery although his physical rehabilitation is expected to take many months.
