Pinetown resident makes Mrs SA pageant semi-finals

Thando Mbokazi is passionate about women empowerment and hopes to use her influence as Mrs South Africa semi-finalist to fundraise for various charities.

PINETOWN resident, Thando Mbokazi was recently announced as Mrs South Africa semi-finalist for 2021. Mbokazi said she was looking forward to the new journey especially to impact women in a positive way.

Mbokazi, was announced out of a record number of entries received by the organisation during a global pandemic.

Her journey began as a semi-finalist, on 5 March 2021, where she was announced virtually on the Mrs South Africa official Instagram page, along with the other beautiful, sophisticated and married women from all over South Africa, she attended an empowerment workshop held at Emperors Palace, to prepare the class of 2021 for the journey ahead.

Mbokazi has completed various diplomas in media studies, office administration and public relations and is currently studying towards a Bachelor of Arts in Communication at the University of South Africa. Not new to the modelling world, Mbokazi attended a grooming course in 1994,.

“I was 14 years at the time. Modelling instilled confidence in me and has opened many doors for me,” she said.

  Married to South Africa’s ambassador to Mexico, Dennis Thokozani Dlomo, Mbokazi said she wanted to show the world that she was not just a ‘Madamme ambassador’ but has interests as a person.

“People tend to undermine spouses of ambassadors, ministers and head of state. Being chosen as a semi-finalist is a beautiful feeling for Mbokazi who hopes to use her influence as Mrs South Africa semi-finalist title to fundraise for various charities in Durban, South Africa and Mexico City.  

“I will also be using this platform to link South African businesses with the global community,” said the 40 year-old who is passionate about personal, community and business development.

“I am a firm believer that everyone was born for a reason and it is my duty to make a mark as long as I am still alive,” she said.

Also passionate about women empowerment, Mbokazi advised and encouraged young girls and women to equip themselves with information and education so that they can take care of themselves and avoid being exploited and abused by their partners.

“It is important for young girls and women to have confidence and faith in themselves,” she said. To vote for the Pinetown beauty queen, people can send an SMS with the name Thando Mbokazi to 35959. Voting lines will close on 30 June 2021.
