During the suspect's arrest, Bellair SAPS detectives also confiscated a vehicle used in robberies around the area.

A MAN believed to be involved in a business robbery at a supermarket in Bellair is expected to appear in the Durban Magistrates Court.

“During the suspect’s arrest, a vehicle, which was positively identified in some of the robberies in the area, was confiscated,” she said.

According to Pillay, the Bellair policing area had recently been plagued with robberies occurring at businesses and attacks on pedestrians who are unwary of their surroundings.

“These criminals enter the business premises pretending to be patrons and flee in this getaway vehicle after robbing the cashiers of cash and cellphones.

“These suspects also then drive up next to the unwary pedestrian and rob them of their belongings. More arrests are expected,” said Pillay.

Bellair SAPS station commander, Lt/Col Radash Ramchunder expressed his appreciation to the members under the command of the detective branch commander, Capt Nathan Khumalo and Capt Braveman Dladla for the concerted efforts made in tracing and arresting these suspects.

Sanelisiwe Tsinde

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
