The child was under the care of his biological mother in Wyebank. They both disappeared after the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court granted the stepmother full custody of the boy.

PINETOWN Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit is appealing to the public to help find nine year-old Simangaliso Mavela Sibeko.

Simangaliso went missing while under the care of his biological mother in May this year.

According to Pinetown Cluster communications officer, Capt Bongumusa Manqele, it is alleged that the missing boy was abandoned by his biological mother when he was 10 months old and was raised by his father and stepmother in Johannesburg.

Manqele said the father of the boy passed away in 2018 and the biological mother wanted her son back.

“On 21 May this year, the biological mother was granted custody of the child by the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court. On 3 June this year, the stepmother approached the Johannesburg High court and was given full custody of the child.”

Manqele reported that the child and the biological mother, who resided in Wyebank, cannot be found.

Police are appealing to anyone with information regarding the missing boy to contact the investigating officer, Det/Sgt Mdunge on 082 555 6254 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.

Sanelisiwe Tsinde

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
