Teams gear up for 4x4ForGood Drive

More than 100 4x4 vehicles will head into Inanda Valley on Women's Day to donate food parcels to those in need.

THE 4x4ForGood Drive is the brainchild of a group of community leaders to support communities in hard to reach areas in the Inanda Valley. The group will gather at Lineage Coffee in Hillcrest on Monday, August 9 at 07:00.

More than 100 vehicles will leave from the popular eatery with over 300 pre-packed food parcels that will be distributed to families in need in the valley.

Teams will be designated a team leader and translator, and given co-ordinates to an area in need. The team said they are aware there are NPOs and charities that are active in this region but said that many of them were only able to support communities in the outer rim of the valley due to the inaccessibility of the regions deeper in the valley.

“This is where the Upper Highway 4×4 communities comes in. Our aim is to reach people that are often overlooked to get things they desperately need. This is not about an organisation or a charity or any other group, this is about the upper Highway community connecting and supporting those in deep rural areas, not just with handouts, but sustainable, uplifting investment,” said Lineage Coffee’s Craig Charity, a community leader helping to spearhead the initiative.

The team noted this was the first phase of the initiative. Once the distribution is complete, the teams will meet at the Mqeku picnic spot.
