Help Kloof bikers repair classic motorcycle

For the past 40 years, the classic motorcycle built in 1981 has been a reliable companion for Roger and Jillian Service.

CALAMITY filtered into the lives of two Octogenarian riders when they were unable to purchase parts for their bike which has been their reliable companion for the past four decades.

The bikers, Roger and Jillian Service, have been housebound as they have been unable to repair their classic motorcycle, built in 1981.

Roger, who turned 81, said he and Blue Bird have been inseparable.

“Since the bike is too old, it’s impossible to get the part,” he said.

According to the Kloof resident, the engine has developed a fault and the Honda parts he joked are seemingly made of ‘Unobtainium’, which they have been told are unobtainable.

Blue Bird has done 95 000km and has been a good and reliable companion for the bikers over the past 40 years. What’s more there are not many of them left.

Kloof residents, Roger and Jillian Service are looking for parts for their companion.

Roger told the Highway Mail that it feels weird to not ride as ‘Once a biker, always a biker’.

“I have tried to stop riding as I once fell and injured myself but as soon as I healed I went back to riding,” he said.

His wife, Jillian said riding a bike gives one a sense of freedom, “it like low level flying.”

The couple said the reason they decided to contact the newspaper was that a year or so ago, a Highway admirer of the bike mentioned that he had lots of spares available if ever needed.

“Naturally, due to age-related impediment I have forgotten his contact number. If he or anyone interested in this Classic in Crisis, the bike, not me, or can assist with parts, I would be most grateful,” said Roger.
