Westville learner (12) raises R45 900 for baby home

Baby House Westville is a safe house for abandoned babies and babies placed for adoption.

CALEIGH Allnatt is a 12-year-old with the biggest heart.

The Westville Senior Grade 7 learner has raised a whopping R45 900 for the Baby House Westville.

Caleigh became a volunteer at the home before lockdown and the idea to raise funds was her 2019 new year’s resolution.

She said she was advised by her father to do a presentation about the baby home and work that they do to share with family and friends.

The home, which currently has nine children, is a privately-run, community-funded non-profit organisation. It is a safe house for abandoned babies and babies placed for adoption.

“I drafted the presentation and approached family and friends as well as my parents’ business associates,” smiled Caleigh.

She also fundraised at her school. “I love children and it has been tough to not come and spend some time with them.”

After 18 months, the courageous Caleigh had raised R22 000.

Her father, Scott Allnatt had promised that his company, Shelley Residential Properties will match the amount.

“I just thought she was going to raised about R2000,” he said.

Terri Wentzel from the Baby House Westville said what Caleigh did for the home was absolutely incredible.

“Her heroic action really blew us away, we cannot thank her enough and we are grateful to all the people who contributed. With the lockdown, many people and businesses are struggling, this money will really go a long way for our little ones,” said a grateful Wentzel.

Currently, the home is housing nine children ranging from new borns to two-year-olds.
