KLOOF and Highway SPCA’s oldest resident animal, Benji the Tortoise, was brought in as a stray in 2003 and weighed in at a mere 13kgs.
Benji, who is estimated to be about 80 years old, now weighs 18kgs.
The Kloof and Highway SPCA’s manager, Barbara Patrick said Benji loves to eat and is lucky as he receives a meal of fresh greens, fruit and vegetables, 365 days a year.
“We would like to thank our Kennel Sponsorship family who have committed to a monthly kennel sponsorship fee and to everyone who sponsors our resident animals,” she said.

At Caxton, we employ humans to generate daily fresh news, not AI intervention. Happy reading!
My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
