Melanie Brauteseth wins Ward 18

The DA councillor thanked the community for the overwhelming support and promised to continue to champion service delivery matters.

GETTING the GO!Durban to operate and moving the Pinetown Home Affairs offices to a safer area are on the top of the to-do list for Melanie Brauteseth, who was reelected as the Ward 18 councillor.

The brand, GO!Durban, an integrated rapid public transport network (IRPTN), was introduced back in 2013 and, to this day, the project is still a no-go.

Ward 18 covers the Pinetown CBD, Farningham Ridge, Hatton Estate, Paradise Valley, Cowies Hill, Chiltern Hills and a small portion of New Germany.

Brauteseth said she was overwhelmed and excited to be reelected as the councillor and looks forward to champion service delivery matters.

She told the Highway Mail that she was the first Ward 18 councillor to finish the term as the previous councillors had either relocated or moved to a provincial level.

She described the five years she served as a huge growing experience and said she welcomes the challenges and will put this valuable experience into continued service for the residents of the ward.

Brauteseth said in the five years she has received many complaints from residents related to service issues.

“Residents have often complained about not getting through to the eThekwini Municipality call centres. I have done my best to escalate such matters. The three service delivery matters that I often receive complaints about are bursting pipes, sewage leaks and electricity issues,” she said.

Her other goals involve continuing to highlight the litter issues, especially on the freeways, and the collapsing barriers. “I would also like to see the developments of the Lahee Park getting underway,” said Brauteseth.

She said she was proud of the water infrastructure project in Westville North, which was a success, and her partial cleaning and fixing of the ‘M’ roads in her ward.

Another achievement she said she was proud of was the Ubunye project, which was started to bring the Ward 18 community and the surrounding communities together after the July unrest.
