Young champ needs help to make a mark in Spain

Siyathokoza Mzobe needs help to pursue his soccer dream in Spain.

FROM playing in the dusty streets of Klaarwater, the young soccer champ, Siyathokoza Sya Mzobe stands a chance to play in Europe.

The Caversham resident was invited to compete in a round of trials at the Spanish-based Marbella International Football Academy. He currently plays for the U23 AmaZulu FC reserve side.

“I am just excited. This opportunity makes me so happy,” beamed Mzobe, adding that it still felt surreal.

The 18-year-old said he was scouted by AmaZulu at the age of 13 when he played for his school, Ashley Primary School at a KZN tournament.

For Mzobe, doing what he loves and working hard has opened doors and opportunities for him and advised young people to never doubt themselves.

“When I am in the stadium, I forget everything and give my best,” said the midfielder.

He said young people should follow their dreams and always remember that the sky’s the limit.

The matric learner at Glenwood High School said he plans to study business management or entrepreneurship.

What stands between him and his dreams is the R30 000 bill for the trip abroad.

The youngster appealed to Highway residents to assist him. “The trials take place on January 9 next year and the cost of the trip includes flights, a visa and accommodation. Assistance will be highly appreciated,” said his proud mother, Mbali Khumalo.
