The centre based in Mariannhill, was started by Sister Marco Gneis and has been in existence for more than 30 years.

It supports many families in the area with its soup kitchen and crèche and empowers the women in the area through classes that include sewing, baking and gardening.

Gloria Shange, a counsellor at the centre, said the donation came at a right time as the organisation was heavily affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and the recent unrest.

“During the July riots, our centre was also targeted. They stripped our building and looted almost everything in the building. We are still trying to get back on our feet.

“This centre helps so many families and it was so painful to see the building damaged,” said Shange. She thanked the school and Fourways KwikSPAR for the donation and support. “We truly appreciate it,” said a grateful Shange.

Sanelisiwe Tsinde

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
