Westville Boys’ takes on Hilton
Westville claimed inspired wins in the pool and on the basketball court.
WESTVILLE Boys’ High School travelled to Hilton College’s highly anticipated sports events this weekend.
These are always tightly contested meetings for both schools and Westville claimed inspired wins in the pool and on the basketball court
In 1st team basketball, Westville’s Jedin Lee won the tip off and started Westville with possession, which helped Jesse Hartwig score Westville’s first points of the game.

From the onset Westville was aggressive with ball in hand, taking the ball to the hoop, putting Hilton in foul trouble almost every quarter. It was a tightly contested first quarter as both teams went back and forth scoring thirteen points each.
The second quarter was no different, with Westville keeping energy and intensity high, their defence saw Hilton struggle to convert possessions into points.
Team morale for Westville was high starting the third quarter, however Hilton came back refreshed and refocused with a change in defense which saw Westville struggle to find momentum. Hilton threw everything at Westville, which helped them fight their way back into the game ending the third quarter 50-48 to Westville.
The fourth quarter was well contested, as Westville fought to keep hold of their lead. Great leadership from the Captain, Senzo Zondi, helped Westville keep their cool under the relentless pressure from Hilton. At the end it was Center, Jedin Lee who boasted an impressive 21 points to help Westville secure the win.
Westville took the 79-70 win over Hilton.
Water polo
In the pool, Westville Boys’ High had a quick turn around from their weekend win against Maritzburg College, and took on Hilton in the Chad Le Clos pool.
Hilton opened the scoring from the right, but Westville hit back through Aaron Tarr and a good extra man goal by Max Scully.
With back and forth blows from both sides, there was some exceptional goalkeeping from Hilton’s Tanner Bailey and Westville’s Nathan Jacob. At half time the teams went in level at -a-piece.
Hilton looked to have been in control of the game in the third chukka and were set to go into the final quarter 7 – 6 up, but Daniel Lambert scored a great goal from the left to keep the game locked at 7 – 7 with one quarter to go.
Hilton College drew first blood at the start of the fourth and the score remained for most of the chukka at 7 – 8 in Hilton’s favour. Westville elevated an already exciting game by scoring a penalty, earned by Rhees Hall and converted by Aaron Tarr, which was then followed up by a Max Scully perimeter shot.
Jamie Spence converted a 2:1 to put the nail in the coffin. The game ended as 10 – 8 win for the hosts.
