The young Westville eco-warrior has devoted his afternoons to pick up litter around his neighbourhood.

INSPIRED by the #TakeBackWestville movement, young Oliver Martin is doing his part to keep his neighbourhood clean.

Since the beginning of 2022 the six-year-old has devoted his afternoons to walk the pavements of his community to pick up litter.

The Westville Junior Primary School learner said he wants his town to be clean.

“My family has always been part of the clean-up community. We have done beach clean-ups, park clean-ups and neighbourhood clean-ups with the Keep Westville Beautiful organisation,” he said.

On his litter pick-ups, Oliver said he has picked up all types of rubbish from cigarettes’ boxes, wine bottles and soda cans – all which could be recycled for a greener environment.

Oliver said his message is clear, he wants to lead by example. “It makes me sad if its all dirty,” he said.

His next plan is to get 10 of his friends to join him and form a cleaning club.

Apart from cleaning his neighbourhood daily, Oliver is an avid Chelsea Football Club supporter and couldn’t stop talking about its latest win.

The young eco-warrior wants to continue his good work and become a firefighter or a paleontologist when he is older.
