Pinetown residents take back their town
Pinetown residents have launched Keep Pinetown Beautiful, to restore the suburb to its former glory.
COWIES Hill residents Zane Welensky and Sherryll Galvin have one goal – to take back their town.
They started off the Keep Pinetown Beautiful initiative, and the first one went well with a group of residents coming out to get their hands dirty on Saturday, May 28.

Welensky and Galvin said that Pinetown has lost its beauty as it has become crippled with rubbish. The clean-up was held at Sandy’s Centre’s adjacent fields. About 55 bags filled with bottles, papers and plastics were collected on the day.
Welensky said this was a start, and they plan to host these clean-ups regularly and appealed to the public to join and help restore Pinetown to its former glory.
Ward 18 Councillor Melanie Brauteseth, who was also part of the clean-up, said she was excited about this initiative.
“It has always been my dream to clean up Pinetown. I even liaised with Liesel Muhl from Keep Westville Beautiful, to assist me and also get me in touch with people who will be willing to be a part of this. Now that it is happening, I am ecstatic.” Brauteseth beamed.
She thanked everyone who took part in the initiative and called for more support going forward.
According to Welensky, Durban Solid Waste assured them they would install more bins around the field.
