Westville parents organise Halloween party for children

Westville parents come up with a plan for children to enjoy Halloween weekend.

PLEASE NOTE: This has been moved forward to Friday, October 27, due to possible heavy rain on Saturday!

IN search of a child-friendly Halloween event in the Upper Highway area, a few moms of Westville came together to organise a Halloween event aimed at children’s entertainment.

This day will see moms of Westville come together with their families to set a Halloween-themed table where they will be handing out sweets and treats for their children.

The community is invited to dress up and show up with their families with their goodies to share on Leigh Cocks Field on the corner of Baden and Westville roads from 17:00 to 18:00 on Friday, October 27.

Speaking to the Highway Mail, one of the moms, Lisa Beresford-Mnyandu, said she and her friend, Sarah Morrison, were looking for something safe and fun to do with kids in Westville for Trick or Treats.

“We couldn’t find anything and most things you had to pay to enter, and since the Rugby World Cup finals are on the same day, parents will be drinking. We were looking for something strictly for the kids.

“At first, we wanted to plan something intimate with friends and family for our road in Westville. I later thought it might not be safe with all the kids and cars driving up and down. We managed to secure the Leigh Cocks Field which is on Westville Road for an hour.

“We then created a WhatsApp group, and over 100 people joined the group. We are not benefiting in any way – it is just for the children to come and enjoy the day.”

Beresford-Mnyandu said they have local companies sponsoring pizza and drinks on the day. She said they are looking forward to the community joining them and meeting their neighbours in Westville.
