16 schoolchildren injured in Westville accident

The learners sustained minor injuries and were transported to various Durban hospitals.

LEARNERS aged between seven and 14 were injured when a school taxi collided with a light motor vehicle this morning (October 24).

According to ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson, paramedics received numerous calls just after 07:00 about an accident involving schoolchildren on Aberfeldy Road in Westville North.

“Multiple ambulances and Advanced Life Support Paramedics were dispatched. On arrival, paramedics found chaos as a taxi carrying 16 schoolchildren had collided with a light motor vehicle.

“The children between the ages of seven and 14 had sustained minor injuries and were stabilised on the scene before being transported to various Durban hospitals for the further care they required,” said Jamieson.

He added that the driver of the light motor vehicle had also sustained minor injuries and was also transported to hospital.
