Celebrating a century

Kilpin family and Peace Cottage celebrate Pam Kilpin who turned 100 years old.

IT was a day of jubilation for the Kilpin family and Peace Cottage as they celebrated Pamela Kilpin’s century of life. Turning 100 years on November 9, Kilpin, who is known as Pam, was celebrated by her friends and family at Peace Cottage in Kloof.

Speaking to the Highway Mail, Tim Kilpin, who is Pam’s son, said his mother’s 100th birthday is a momentous occasion where they get to celebrate their mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.

“She is the first family member to live this long – it is such a wonderful thing. All four of us, as her children, are here, with some travelling from Australia and England,” she said.

Pam was born in Cape Town, moved to Westville, where she spent most of her years, and later moved to Kloof where she is now at Peace Cottage. Pam has four children, six grandchildren and four great-children.

Tim said his mother is a fun and vibrant person whose company is always enjoyed. “My siblings and I were the luckiest children growing up,” he exclaimed.

He said that even though his mother is not able to express it by herself, he knows that she is happy. “She is aware that this is her big day, and she knows that everybody is here to celebrate her.”

Peace Cottage nurse Sister Vannessa Clark wished Pam a Happy Birthday. “Pam is loved by everyone, and we are happy to celebrate her and the smiles she has shared with everyone during her time here,” she said.
