Loud bangs take their toll on the SPCA

If your pet is missing, visit your nearest animal shelter as soon as possible to see if they are there.

NINE dogs and four cats were brought into the Kloof and Highway SPCA on Sunday, November 12  as a result of the distress caused by fireworks.

Brigitte Ferguson from the Kloof and Highway SPCA said one dog, Milo, was brought in deceased and one dog that was hit by a car was stabilised in the clinic.

“Sadly, once again, the animals have suffered. The animals that came into the Kloof and Highway SPCA were the fortunate ones, but those that ran petrified onto freeways and were caught in fences never stood a chance and suffered. We are sorry that we could not be there for you,” said a distressed Ferguson.

She said the Kloof and Highway SPCA remained open on Sunday night to keep their doors open for any animals in distress.

Ferguson thanked the staff who worked long hours making sure they stood by the non-profit organisation’s mandate to prevent cruelty to all animals.

“In this case, we applaud those who took a stance and opted for fireworks without the bangs. On behalf of all the animals – domestic and wild – we would like to say thank you,” she said.
