Joining hands for charity
Once Upon a Time charity shop continues to support local non-profit organisation.

NESTLED in the historical Pinefield Junction Village is the Once Upon a Time charity shop which helps local charity organisations raise funds.
Accepting donations from the community, a group of volunteers serve in the shop, collecting donations and distributing the dividends to the beneficiaries.

Speaking more about Once Upon a Time charity shop, Christina Hemming said the shop was converted to a non-profit organisation after the store was a retail being passed from one owner to the other.
“I had a friend who had a charity shop, and she encouraged me to start one, as well. From there, I helped the charities sell their donations here because all the people I was selling for were charity-based and the staff were also volunteers, so I decided to register the store as a non-profit,” she said.
Donations either come from the non-profit charity or the general public. They are dropped off directly at the shop, and the public chooses which charity the funds need to go to.
The charities that are beneficiaries are the Baby House Westville, Baby Hope House, Mazarat Rescue, Kitty Care, the Jes Foord Foundation and many more.
Sold at the Once Upon a Time Charity shop are pre-loved goods, such as clothes, kitchenware, toys and house decor. The shop also has a nursery where the community can purchase plants.
Christina said the shop also has a Facebook page where they advertise items on sale or on special. “The page is mainly for the people who are outside town and need their items to be couriered,” said Hemming.

The shop is up and running for the year and requires more volunteers who will help serve in the shop.
“Two-thousand and twenty-four seems to be a very positive year for the shop with exciting news coming soon. We are also appealing for more helping hands in the shop. Should you have spare hours in the week and would like to join our volunteer group, or add your non-profit to the charity shop, you can contact me on 066 214 0378,” said Hemming.
Once Upon a Time charity shop is in Pinefield on 81 Stapleton Road and is open on Tuesdays to Thursdays from 09:30 to 12:00, Fridays from 09:30 to 14:00 and Saturdays from 10:00 to 12:00.
