Several people injured in a multi-vehicle collision near Pavilion

About 18 people sustained moderate to serious injuries in a multi-vehicle collision.

THREE taxis and a bakkie collided on the N3 Pinetown-bound before the Pavilion on Wednesday morning (February 7), leaving about 18 people injured.

ALS Paramedics Medical Services spokesperson Garrith Jamieson reported that they arrived on the scene along with other emergency services to find total carnage.

“Approximately 18 people sustained injuries ranging from moderate to serious and were stabilised on the scene by Advanced Life Support Paramedics before being transported to various Durban hospitals for further treatment.

“The driver of the one taxi was found entrapped in his vehicle. He was stabilised in the taxi by Advanced Life Support Paramedics while the Durban Fire Department used the Jaws of Life and other hydraulic tools to free the man. Once the man was free, he was transported to a nearby Durban hospital for the urgent care that he required,” he said. 

At this stage, the events leading up to the accident are unknown, however, SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further.
