The grassy park-like banks around Dezzi Raceway are family-and spectator-friendly, with gates opening at 07:00 and the racing starting at 10:00. Refreshments and food outlets are available, and spectators can walk through the pits to admire the motorcycles and cars while mingling with the race drivers and riders. Tickets are R100 for adults and R50 for kids and pensioners.

The racing programme for the day, with races varying between bike and car classes, includes:

Motorcycles: Starting from 150cc and going through to Formula Extreme (600cc – 1000cc). One of the highlights of the motorcycle programme is the big field of riders in the Motard Class.

Meet Peter Ward from Waterfall

Racing for the SJW team in the Motard Masters Class, Ward, who is also known as Panic Pete, says in the height of training, his diet consists of McDonald’s pink milkshakes and chicken nuggets. He tried to quit smoking, but that did not go well, and his team has allowed it due to all the crash-test dummies in the team that give him grey hair when their hamsters fall off the wheel. Racing as number 34, Ward says he is looking forward to a safe and fun season this year, with hopefully a couple of podiums.
