11 injured as vehicle bursts into flames in Otto Volek Road crash

Otto Volek Road was closed on Saturday afternoon after two cars collided and one burst into flames.

ELEVEN people were injured when a vehicle burst into flames after colliding with another vehicle  on Otto Volek Road by the M19 on Saturday afternoon.

ALS Paramedics Medical Services spokesperson Garrith Jamieson reported that they found total carnage at the accident scene. 

“The Ethekwini Fire Department arrived a short while later and quickly contained the blaze. Paramedics quickly set up a triage system and found that both vehicles had contained multiple occupants. 

“A total of eleven patients had sustained injuries ranging from moderate to serious and multiple ALS ambulances as well as Advanced Life Support paramedics attended to the injured and once stabilised they were transported to various Durban Hospitals for the further treatment that they required,” he said.

 SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further.
