Unfortunately, the woman was declared dead on scene as she sustained major injuries.

A WOMAN believed to be in her 70s has died in a serious single vehicle crash on the M13 Durban bound near Kings Avenue in Westville.

According to ALS Paramedics spokesperson, Garrith Jamieson, paramedics arrived on scene just after 09:00 to find that a single vehicle had rolled numerous times, coming to rest on its roof.

“Paramedics quickly assessed the scene and found that the driver and only occupant of the vehicle was entrapped in the wreckage. Unfortunately the female, believed to be in her seventies, had sustained major injuries and there was nothing paramedics could do for her and she was declared deceased on the scene.”

He said the scene is still active and will be for some time.

Jamieson urged motorists to slow down in this wet weather.

“Leave a little bit earlier to reach your destination. Please also ensure your vehicle’s windscreen wipers and tyres are in good condition.”

At this stage, Jamieson said the events leading up to the crash are unknown, however SAPS are on scene and will be investigating.
