Methula, who was taught this skill by her late mother,  is sharing the basic tips in the video below that can be used by the public to learn how to knit using wool.  She says to knit a wool hat, you need a basic understanding of knitting techniques such as casting on, knitting, and decreasing.

“A simple hat typically involves knitting in the round, which means you will be working stitches around the circumference of the hat. You can also find many patterns from other knitters and online. Videos can be helpful for visual guidance,” says the elderly knitter. She advises that circular needles are recommended for knitting in the round, especially for hats, as they are easier to work with than straight needles.

Methula adds: “Casting is how you create the initial stitches on your needles. Knitting is the fundamental stitch, and you will be doing it frequently. Decreasing is how you reduce the number of stitches and create the shape of the hat.”
