Watch: Brave firefighters battle blaze in Pinetown

Andreas Mathios from Marshall Security says it is suspected tyres were on fire at a private business premises on Joule Road in Pinetown.

FIREFIGHTERS worked through Tuesday night (January 20) under extreme conditions, which included rain and the wind changing direction, to put out a blaze on Joule Road  in Pinetown.

Andreas Mathios from Marshall Security said they were alerted of a plume of smoke in the area, which triggered emergency respondents to rush to the scene, including the eThekwini Municipality’s Fire Services Directorate.

Mathios said he cannot confirm what was on fire and what had caused it, adding that it is estimated the fire started at about 18:00.

Mathios said it appears as if the fire was on a private business premises on Joule Road in Pinetown and it is suspected that tyres were ablaze.

He added that he had not received any reports about damaged buildings or injured persons.

On Wednesday morning (January 21) Mathios said the fire was still smoldering.

He advised residents who may feel unwell due to smoke inhalation to seek medical attention.

“The firefighters from eThekwini were very, very brave last night, they were absolutely fantastic,” said Mathios.
