Charity knitters give winter warmth to men’s shelter
Cliffdale men’s shelter The Ark KZN received a welcome donation of warm items made by a dedicated Hillcrest knitting group.
HIGHWAY Charity Knitters is a group with the aim of making woolen items to donate to charities in the Durban area. The knitters recently made a generous donation of handmade warm, winter clothing items and blankets to The Ark KZN, a men’s shelter based in Cliffdale.
Highway Charity Knitters started with only three women meeting at the Kloof Library in 2016. The membership grew to more than 30 before the pandemic and now has 13 regular knitters making a steady supply of scarves, woollen hats and blankets.
A donation of warm, winter items was handed to representatives from The Ark KZN recently. The Upper Highway NGO is a Christian organisation providing shelter for approximately 105 men. The Ark manager, George Pretorius, and assistants, Chris Klopper and Jacques Beeslaar, gratefully accepted the donation of winter items on behalf of their residents.
