Keep pets safe in the heat

Take these simple precautions provided by Kloof and Highway SPCA to prevent your pet from overheating.

THE Kloof and Highway SPCA has reminded pet owners that all animals should have adequate areas of shade and shelter.

This comes after the extreme heat that Durban and surrounds are experiencing.

“This heat is predicted to carry on for the next few days,” says SPCA’s Brigitte Ferguson.

She advised that fresh water should be accessible at all times.

“If you normally walk or run with your dogs, please consider going very early or very late in the day when it is cooler. Please remember how hot a surface is for an animal’s feet,” said Ferguson.

“An excellent way to cool off your pets is to allow them to place their feet in cool water. Please be a responsible and considerate pet owner,” urged Ferguson.

Sanelisiwe Tsinde

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
