Kloof Conservancy Indigenous Open Gardens – what’s on show (Part 2)
Take a sneak peek at the gardens that will be on show at this year’s Kloof Conservancy Indigenous Open Gardens.
THIS year, the Kloof Conservancy has secured some outstanding gardens for its annual Open Gardens show, and this week, we take a look at Daneen Schallen’s garden and Sandile Radebe’s garden which are both situated at Stoneford Estate in Botha’s Hill.
The Kloof Conservancy Indigenous Open Gardens show is set to take place on the weekend of March 25 and 26.

Kloof Conservancy chairman Paolo Candotti said Daneen Schallen’s garden is not a true ‘garden’ in the context of their show, but it is a large environmentally important wetland area which demonstrates wise land use and habitat protection in an upmarket development.

“Not only is the wetland of environmental importance but it also provides the residents with an important recreational facility where they can reconnect with nature.”
Candotti said they plan to place environmental NGOs and support organisations, such as craftsmen and nurseries, at this site, which will make it a very pleasant area for show visitors to enjoy the natural surroundings, relax and browse the products on offer.
Speaking about Sandile Radebe’s garden, Candotti said: “This garden will be on show for the very first time and offers visitors a glimpse on how to successfully blend a large home, with all its necessary hard surfaces, into an eye-pleasing palette.”
“The garden has been recently landscaped and boasts style with simplicity, and at the same time, offers an indigenous haven for birds, insects and wildlife.”
