Cleaning up the Hillcrest Station

Community members, along with the Hillcrest Conservancy, gathered to clean up the Hillcrest Station railway.

TEN bags of litter were collected during a clean-up at the Hillcrest Station initiated by the Hillcrest Conservancy, together with Riverview Mowers and Riverview Hardware. George Victor of the conservancy said the area is normally maintained by Umgeni Steam, who are presently hard-pressed to repair urgent track damage in the Botha’s Hill area.

“The reserve area has, as a result, become overgrown in some places, with many local residents concerned about safety and health issues. Some residents have taken the initiative and started working on clearing sections in their area, and by putting in two hours of work a month, have made a difference,” said Victor.

Ten bags of litter were removed, and the area was also cleared of invasive plants which posed a problem for the adjacent Springside Reserve.
