Man shot in apparent robbery in Bellair

Local Bellair CPF and multiple security companies attended to a shooting incident on Wednesday evening.

A MAN was allegedly shot during an armed robbery on Wednesday, around 21:30, on Sarnia Road near Woodlands Avenue in the Bellair area.

ALS Paramedics reported that they were called to assist with the shooting incident. ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said it is alleged that there was an armed robbery taking place at a restaurant, and while the suspects were fleeing, they opened fire, injuring the man.

“On arrival, paramedics found SAPS, multiple security companies and the local CPF on scene. Paramedics attended to a man in his fifties who had been shot in his lower leg. He was stabilised on scene by Advanced Life Support Paramedics before being transported to a nearby hospital for the further care that he required,” said Jamieson.

The Bellair Community Policing Forum (CPF) confirmed the incident, saying they were alerted that their Bayswater patrollers came under fire when they were alerted to a business robbery.

“Our patroller has been treated in hospital and was kept overnight for observation. Please keep our brother and his family in prayer – that he will make a speedy recovery. We take this opportunity to respect and salute our patrollers who came under fire and our patrollers who voluntarily put themselves at risk to protect our community,” they said.

SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further.
