Abrahams from Easy Spares and Accessories Mariannridge said they have started a campaign called ‘Operation Clean Up’, in which they have had the privilege of facilitating and engaging many structures and community members in taking responsibility for keeping their community clean and safe.

Abrahams said that recently, they have been having an issue with litter, illegal activity and lots of unusual access to their community.

“Our objective is to reclaim our community and limit the amount of access that strangers have as well as a long-term plan regarding illegal activities.”

To help keep the area clean, Abrahams said they have adopted the main street into the Mariannridge community and would like to use it as a model for the rest of the community in beautifying it and making it safe.

The group recently held a clean-up campaign which was facilitated by the Mariannridge Coordinating Committee and Area Based Management.

“Our current desire is to reclaim our park where, currently, the kids are unable to play. It has been vandalised and has not been properly maintained for years now.

“Our goal is to put up the necessary equipment and to fence off as well as plant some beautiful flowers which we will be responsible for.”

The Mariannridge community is cleaning up the area to make it beautiful and welcoming.

In addition, Abrahams’ business has 24-hour surveillance which they are willing to use to prevent any further vandalising as well as to keep it safe for the children to play in the park.

To make this a success, she is appealing to anyone who can assist them with the items needed to restore their community park and verges.

Anyone who wishes to assist can contact Abrahams on 067 682 7986.

Sanelisiwe Tsinde

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
