Locally, Hillcrest High School welcomed 245 new Grade Eight learners to the school for the Grade Eight Orientation Programme on January 15 and 16. Hillcrest High School acting principal Denise Knight said the programme was carefully devised to help the new Grade Eight learners settle in and find their feet quickly at the school.

“The goal is to help the learners make new friends, get to know the Student Leaders and to break the ice for their first day on Wednesday, which for many, can be very daunting,” explained Knight.

The first day was facilitated by the Student Leadership Team for 2024 and Grade Controllers for Grade Eight.

“The first day had the new Grade Eights moving around the school in small groups, accompanied by Student Leaders who showed them the places where they will need to go, shared the history of the school and quizzed them on important facts, such as the names of school heads.

“There were fun pit stops and games along the way to keep things light and entertaining and help solidify the learning taking place,” said the school’s marketing manager, Kim Blom.
