Schools to close early in KZN due to weather warning

For some schools in the province, the first day back to school has been affected negatively due to the rainy weather.

THE Kwazulu-Natal Department of Education has released a statement with a directive for schools to release learners and officials early due to severe weather warnings issued by the South African Weather Services (SAWS).

This comes after the province experienced various challenges in recent weeks as a result of flooding.

“A number of communities have been seriously affected, and some lost family members. Schools have been no exception in this regard,” read the statement.

According to the weather services, the province is likely to experience heavy rainfall this afternoon, (January 17) which is the learners’ first day of school.

The department has directed schools to release learners and their staff by 13:00.

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
