New Germany unkempt site cleared
The New Germany Ratepayers' Association said they hope the vacant plot will now attract young people to utilise it for sport and for pet owners to walk their dogs.
THE New Germany Ratepayers’ Association, in conjunction with the City’s Parks Department, cut the overgrown grass at a plot in Sander Road that had been neglected for years.
The plot, which has been reported to belong to the Department of Education, was once used to place the pipes used in the Western aqueduct which was the City’s biggest bulk-water pipeline project.
The association’s committee member, Lynn Robson, said the pipes were removed a few years ago.

“Since pre-Covid, the place has not been looked after, and criminals are using it to escape, and others have been using it as a dumping site.”
Robson said that since the plot did not belong to the City, they were told that the Parks Department does not have a budget for it.
“They offered to come out with the tractor and the driver, but we had to provide the diesel.”
Apart from the dumping and illegal activities, Robson said the unkempt plot was just an eyesore.
She added that with the place now looking decent, it could attract youngsters using it for sport. “They used to play soccer, and also pet owners used the open space to walk their dogs.”
She urged people to stop using the vacant plot as a dump site and thanked the Parks Department for coming on board.
