The man was spotted in an outbuilding of a house in The Manors after stealing copper pipes from another home.

A MAN suspected of stealing copper at a house in Pinetown was found hiding between the mattress and base set in an outbuilding of another home on Tuesday (July 30).

According to Blue Security community manager Idan Smollan, their members responded to a call regarding a suspect on-site at a residence in Quail Place, The Manors, Pinetown.

“When they arrived on scene, they cordoned off the area. They searched the property and found the suspect hiding in the outbuilding. He was arrested.”

Smollan said a resident from Rossiter Road, who also arrived on the scene, identified the suspect as the individual who had stolen his copper pipes earlier that morning. The resident had recovered the copper pipes during his pursuit of the suspect.

Pinetown SAPS communications officer Jennifer Naidu confirmed the incident and said the suspect is expected to appear in court today (August 1).

“Police found the suspect on scene after he was apprehended by Blue Security. He was handed over to our members along with the copper pipes that were recovered.”
