Women’s empowerment programme collects over 100 packs of sanitary towels

Christianenburg Primary School learners benefit from IIE's Varsity College's Westville Women's Empowerment Programme.

THE IIE’s Varsity College in Westville happily handed over 100 sanitary pads to Christianenburg Primary School. Collected during the Ladies to Legends Women Empowerment Programme, the initiative was the brainchild of the Varsity College’s student bodies.

“It was a requirement for the attendees to donate a pack of sanitary towels to gain entry to the event. The collection drive started on campus where 83 packs were collected, and a further 37 packs were donated during the event,” said Kara Lortan, IIE’s Varsity College Westville’s PR and events coordinator.

The donation was received by the staff at Christianenburg Primary School.

“The donation of sanitary towels will make a meaningful difference to many of our female learners. When our learners are absent due to the lack of access to sanitary products, it affects them as they fall behind with their schoolwork. One can only imagine the combined pressure of a lack of access to sanitary products and of having to keep up with schoolwork,” said the school.
