Fig Tree Farm honours Hugo’s legacy with donation to animal rescue

Fig Tree Farm welcomes their new pup, Divot, and honours their late Great Dane, Hugo.

FIG Tree Farm, a family-oriented haven, recently bid farewell to Hugo, their beloved Great Dane who had been an integral part of the farm’s history. Hugo, a rescue dog himself, had found his forever home at the farm several years ago, becoming a much-loved figure among the staff and visitors alike. In the wake of his passing, the farm began preparing for a new addition to their family, a young pup to carry on Hugo’s legacy. They turned to their social media community for help, asking for suggestions on a name for the new arrival. After much input and thoughtful consideration, the name ‘Divot’ was chosen.

To commemorate Divot’s arrival and honour Hugo’s memory, Fig Tree Farm decided to make a meaningful contribution to a cause close to their hearts. The farm pledged to donate R1 000 to an animal rescue organisation (NPO) in Hugo’s name. With the help of their online community, once again, a number of rescue organisations were considered, and it was decided that PawPrint Rescue and Rehoming would be the recipient of this generous donation.

Jax Moynihan, operations manager of Fig Tree Farm, shared her thoughts on the gesture: “So many of us have these beautiful furbabies, both present and from previous chapters of our lives, that we spoil and love every day. On the other side, there are these selfless angels who take on the monumental task of rescuing and caring for animals in need. They do this with the support of kind-hearted people who donate. In today’s challenging times, it’s becoming increasingly difficult for these organisations to keep up with veterinary bills, feeding and staff expenses. Many of them rely on the generosity of donations to continue their vital work.”

Moynihan expressed her deep gratitude for the overwhelming support received from the community. “I’m incredibly thankful to our friends at Halfway Ford Waterfall, Tree Spa Fig Tree Farm and Pam Golding who didn’t hesitate to join us in supporting this cause. Thanks to their generosity, we ended up handing over R8 500 to PawPrints Rescue and Rehoming today!” she said.

In closing, Moynihan extended her thanks to all who contributed, no matter how small their donation. “Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who lent a helping hand. We salute you! And please, come visit Divot at Fig Tree Farm. He would love to meet you.”
