Help local parishes feed the needy
The parishes in Queensburgh are appealing to local businesses and individuals to help put a smile on the faces of underprivileged people this festive season.
LOCAL businesses and residents have embraced the call to assist in giving the underprivileged a treat on Monday, December 16.
This was after the Queensburgh/Bellair Social Outreach Committee of St Catherine’s and St Patrick’s Parishes reached out for assistance.
One of the organisers, Toni Permall, said the parishes are dedicated to supporting and uplifting the local community.

“Our goal is to feed 500 people from the local community, and we are still hoping for other people to come on board and bring a smile to people who won’t be able to celebrate Christmas.
“We are seeking donations in the form of meat, poultry, fresh fruit, juice, biscuits, basic toiletries and non-perishable items – to cook and to hand out to those who are in dire situations who just cannot afford a wholesome, hearty meal.
“We are still looking for more individuals or businesses willing to volunteer their time and resources by cooking meals or assisting in the preparation and distribution of food on the day of the event.”
She said she understands that at this time of the year, budgets are non-existent, and most businesses and individuals have already donated as much as they can.
“However, we appeal to your kind hearts to make this one last effort to feed our community for just one day and to help us give families a small food parcel to take home this season,” she said.
Permall said that this is a collaborative partnership between her, representing St Catherine’s Church, and Wakefields; Barry Todd, a PME Attorney; Bronwyn Philander Jones from ‘Busy B’; and Jay and Adelaine Pillay from the St Vincent De Paul Society Queensburgh.
Individuals or businesses who would like to donate or volunteer their time can contact Toni Permall on 061 535 4217, Bronwyn Philander Jones on 071 222 2887, Jay Pillay on 065 842 4457 or Adelaine Pillay on 072 174 7434.
