Dolphins players’ gesture inspires young fan

Keihan Moodley's first cricket match will have a special place in his hearts for years to come after his cricket bat was signed by the Dolphins player, Keshav Maharaj and receiving a team T-shirt from another player, Prenelan Subrayen.

AN eight-year-old’s experience of his first cricket match exceeded his expectations when he got his cricket bat signed by Keshav Maharaj and received a team T-shirt from Prenelan Subrayen.

Keihan Moodley was excited to be able to watch a match between the Dolphins and the Titans on Wednesday night, March 12.

Watching the game was a dream come true for the aspiring youngster and it was evident with his screams of encouragement to the players, which scored him a signature on his bat.

The Atholl Heights School learner just recently got selected to play cricket for his U9 side at his school.
His mother said the school has an excellent cricket culture and plays matches with schools across Durban, and the school offered Keihan complimentary tickets for the match.

“We attended to allow him to experience his first cricket match,” said his mother.

At the meet and greet after the Dolphins won, he met with Prenelan Subrayen, who after wishing him good luck for his next match, gave him his team shirt from the match.

As parents, the mother said they were in awe of this act of generosity and it meant a lot to their young aspiring cricketer.

“The players’ selflessness and love for their fans is a motivation for my son and many youngsters to continue to love and enjoy the sport.

“We were a bit surprised to see that the turnout was not what we expected, and we hope that by promoting this good experience it may encourage more families to attend and support the Dolphins.”

Moodley also thanked Atholl Heights Primary School for promoting the sport and allowing the learners to experience the game.

On Sunday, March 16, The Hollywoodbets Dolphins claimed their first piece of silverware winning the 2024/2025 One Day Cup competition.

The Dolphins claimed a four wicket win over Goldrush Boland in Paarl.

Sunday’s triumph made it their sixth back-to-back victory and crowning the Dolphins deserving champions.
