Westville resident bags 3 roles in just a year
Daanyaall Ally, who was cast in three Netflix series in just a year, encourages young people to explore and discover their passion.
LIMITING yourself to one thing is an insult to one’s capabilities, says Daanyaall Ally who is juggling acting with his teaching degree among other things.
The Westville resident, who was cast to three Netflix series in one year, said his passion for acting was sparked in high school.
The former Westville Boys’ High School learner attributed his acting skills to his high school teachers, Luke Holder and Steven Stead. “They taught me almost everything I know as when I finished matric I had gained lots of experience through the school’s productions.”
After matric, Ally said he took a gap year to see if he could take acting as a career.

“For 14 months I worked on my acting skills, made content and I loved it. I then decided to find an agency. It was hard, I reached out to Mr Stead who helped me find an agency.”
Within two months of signing up with Viclectic Artists Management, the 21-year-old bagged an acting role.
“I played a character of Gregory Dickson in Season 4 of Blood and Water. Gregory is not a nice person as he is known to be a bully and a manipulator with anger issues.”
After the Blood and Water series, he was cast to his second role in Go! which premiered on March 21.
“I play a character of RJ who is also not a very nice guy,” said Ally.
Asked how he was chosen for those characters, he smiled, shrugged his shoulders and said, “I guess the good guys can portray the character of a bad guy better.”
Ally said Go! is currently ranked number 1 in the country and eighth globally.
“I can not mention the third series as it will only be released later this year but I am excited for what’s to come.”
He said although his parents were a bit sceptical at first about taking a career in acting, they have supported him through his journey, adding that his belief in God has helped him to where he is today.
“I can confidently say, I am blessed.”
Ally is also studying towards his teaching degree, specialising in senior phase maths and science.

“I chose to specialise in maths and science as they are among the subjects that are on demand globally, I want to go and pursue my acting career overseas.
“With my teaching degree I can always have something to fall back on.”
He advised young people to explore and not limit themselves while having a focus.
“They need to experience as much as they can; read, travel, try different kind of foods, meet new people so that they can discover their passion,” he said.
The young actor is also invested into the wellness and fitness industry.
“I exercise a lot and have done body-building. I think that I took from my father whom I look up to. My dad has competed in many national competitions.
“Competing in body-building, one needs to be in a right space, mentally and physically, I really commend him for the many years he has dedicated to body-building,” he said.
