Nature lover transforms illegal dump site
Mbuso Mahlaba's story shows the power of vision, determination, and a little bit of care to turn something forgotten into something amazing.
MBUSO Mahlaba’s journey is truly inspiring! What was once an illegal dump site is now a vibrant space, transformed by his hard work into a beautiful garden filled with flowers, lush grass, and thoughtful designs.
The 33-year-old nature lover from Clermont, who has taken it upon himself to transform a piece of municipal land near his home, said his passion for landscaping, which was sparked by a family friend, has become a source of meditation and positive energy for him.
He emphasised the importance of gardening and agriculture, saying, “They are essential life skills that should be taught from a young age.

“If people can grow their own vegetables, they will not only save money on food but also generate an income by selling their produce.”
Mahlaba said adopting the spot which has turned into an illegal dump was also driven by a desire to protect the environment and promote sustainability.
By planting trees, he aims to provide shade, oxygen, and a healthier living space for his community.
“I do believe that ‘cleanliness is next to godliness’.”
This philosophy is reflected in his tireless efforts to keep the area free from illegal dumping.
As someone who brings a unique vision to each project, Mahlaba said he hopes to inspire children to care for the environment from a young age.
