Pinehaven crafters knit up a storm for charities
A knitting programme has brought so much joy for ladies at Pinehaven Lodge. Armed with needles and wools, these group of dedicated crafters, have made many items which have been donated in various places.
NO wool goes to waste at the hands of Pinehaven Lodge Crafters.
The knitting group which was formed less than three years ago has brought much joy to the nine crafters who make a wide range of items; from toys and blankets to socks, beanies, and shoes.
One of the knitters, Celia Niederhoffer, said they meet monthly to discuss their projects and to share ideas as the items they make are donated to various charities.
“From there we go straight to our homes to continue doing what we love. It is like each of us has found a niche as we all specialise in something. Everything that we make is taken to Pinehaven Retirement Village where it is collected by Pinetown’s Rotary Club’s Jean Senogles who then distributes it accordingly to various charities,” said Niederhoffer.

The group of knitters said sometimes they receive requests to knit certain items for a charity.
“Recently we knitted 15 blankets for the Queensburgh Cheshire Home.”
They extended their gratitude to everyone that helps them with wool donation.
“It is always appreciated and needed,” said Niederhoffer.
Senogles said every item is made with great love and care.
“These dedicated crafters know each item is received with excitement from the children in the childrens’ homes of our city, especially the Highway area. The children clap their little hands when receiving a colourful beanie or lovely new jersey.
“We have seen them hug their new toys and then stop to chat to their new ‘friends’ in the most captivating ways,” said Senogles with a smile.
She added that the Rotary Club of Pinetown makes at least three generous donations of wool to the Pinehaven Lodge and Pinehaven Retirement Village crafters each year.
“They also get wool donations from the public and local churches, and we are thankful as it goes a long way and puts smiles on many children’s faces and even the adults,” said Senogles.
