Wyebank women’s group encourages self-love

The wellness day which was hosted by the Waterlily Women's group reminded people to prioritise their well-being.

‘CHECK in with yourself as your well-being matters’ – these words were emphasised by most of the speakers at a wellness day hosted by The Waterlily Women’s group on Saturday.

Held at the Wyebank Creche, the day offered free health screening, a gym session, nutrition advice, mental health support, wellness talks and a display on affordable nutritious food.

Nellie Naranjee from the women’s group reminded the guests that one cannot pour from an empty cup.

With the group’s motto, ‘Each time a woman stands up for herself, she stands up for every woman’, Naranjee said selfcare is a necessity, and that it is not selfish.

“Looking after yourself is critical. It is okay to say ‘No’ if one feels overwhelmed and has too much on their plates. Asking for help is okay and do not carry the load yourself; fill your cup so that you can be able to pour from it,” she advised.

Naranjee said a world can be a better place filled with lots of positive attitude if people could prioritise their well-being.

“It can help set an example to our children and people who look up to us and people can do so much more when they are revitalised,” she said.

Other speakers also echoed Naranjee’s words of self-love.

The speakers encouraged people to exercise, and take some time for themselves to balance their mental and physical wellness.

Sanelisiwe Tsinde

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
