Cops open attempted murder case after doctor is shot
The Life Westville Hospital manager says that the shooting took place outside hospital property and did not affect any staff, visitors or patients.
THE police have confirmed that an attempted murder case has been opened following a shooting incident on Friday morning which left a doctor injured.
KZN SAPS spokesperson, Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo, said a 65-year-old man was attacked by unknown men while on his way to work on Friday morning.
“He was able to escape but suffered multiple gunshot wounds. The motive of the attack is unknown,” said Ngcobo.

Westville SAPS spokesperson, Captain Elizabeth Squires, confirmed that the shooting took place at around 04:45 on Friday and that the matter “will be investigated by Westville detectives”.
The Life Westville Hospital confirmed that the shooting occurred just outside its entrance on Friday morning.
“The doctor sustained a minor gunshot wound to the hand and has been treated. The South African Police Service responded promptly to the scene. We want to emphasise that this incident took place outside hospital property and did not affect any staff, visitors or patients,” said hospital manager Ishan Sewpersad.
