“Where shots have been fired at various clubs/pubs….. stupid question but are these people arrested or could it be the same person? It also seems to have quite the buzz at the time but then becomes old news and you don’t hear about it again. I would like to put a face to the shots last night and perhaps know what would push someone to do that in a room full of people,” read the post.

Westville SAPS communications officer Captain Elizabeth Squires confirmed the case and said it is being investigated and no arrests have been made.

“There has been no other case reported in the past month as per the post above,” said Squires.

Meanwhile, Veranda Panda has distanced itself from the shooting incident by saying that it occurred after the group’s performance.

“[We] had packed our car and were driving out when all of this happened,” reads a message from Veranda Panda.

In a statement posted on social media, the Westville Old Boys’ Sports Club (WOBSC) said the event was “immediately” ended after the shooting, which was described as “an isolated incident”.

“As a community club, we condemn any form of violence and behaviour of this nature and would like to apologise to our community for those that have been affected by this incident. We are in constant communication with the event organisers and Westville SAPS with regards to investigations and recourse,” reads the statement.

The WOBSC said it continues to prioritise the safety and security of its patrons and is working to implement procedures to prevent the re-occurrence of a similar incident in future.
