Watch: Westville shopper wins car days after accident

Phumzile Ngcobo drove away with a brand new car just days after an accident left her vehicle beyond repairs.

JUST days after being involved in a car accident, Westville resident Phumzile Ngcobo received news that she had won a brand-new Grand i10 Auto Sedan in the SPAR Car competition.

A regular shopper at the Westville SUPERSPAR, she said at first she thought the phone call was a scam. “I even said, ‘They are now coming for me, I am being scammed’,” she recalled.

It was only after her pastor’s wife spoke with the caller that she believed it was real.

Still nursing an injured hand, Ngcobo said she was thankful.

“The call came a few days after I had an accident which left my car beyond repairs. I am so happy and so grateful, words fail me.”

Westville SUPERSPAR owner Rael Laurie shared in the excitement. “This is a national competition and we are privileged that one of the winners is from our store. It’s even more special because Phumzile is a regular shopper, known to all our staff,” he said.

The store celebrated the handover on Friday with vibrant decorations, music, dancing, and a large cake for all shoppers to enjoy.

My name is Sanelisiwe Tsinde, and I'm a mother of two boys and very family-oriented. Being a community journalist for years, I can proudly say I love writing about positive community news articles and giving a voice to the voiceless. Seeing people getting assistance warms my heart. Every day is a different challenge and a new learning opportunity. I supply news for our trusted publication weekly, and a few years ago, Caxton ventured into online publication, so I contribute daily to the websites. I could say I am a multimedia journalist, and working in a community newspaper is beneficial as we do not focus on one thing but we do a bit of everything.
