Cops bust cannabis dealer in Westville

Police say a 30-year-old man was detained at the Westville SAPS for Contravention of the Drugs and Drug Trafficking Act no.140 of 1992 Section 5(b), dealing in narcotics/dagga.

THE police successfully bust a cannabis dealer in the Westville area who was described as “thriving” despite not possessing the required licence and registration.

Westville SAPS communications officer Captain Elizabeth Squires said members of the station’s crime prevention unit and those of its organised crime counterpart on Thursday “executed a buy and bust operation at a suspected thriving cannabis dealing facility in the Westville area”.

“Acting on a duly issued search warrant, members entered the premises and recovered a significant quantity of cannabis and cannabis-related products,” said Squires.

Squires added that upon further investigation it was discovered  that the facility does not possess the required licensing registrations or permits which are granted by the SA Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) and the Department of Agriculture.

“A 30-year-old man was detained at the Westville SAPS for Contravention of the Drugs and Drug Trafficking Act no.140 of 1992 Section 5(b), dealing in narcotics/dagga, for further investigations,”  said Squires.

Westville SAPS station commander, Colonel Sharon Zamantungwa Sihlangu, applauded and commended the officers for the raid and arrest because it means drugs have been removed from the streets.
