Councillor urges residents to report broken streetlights
The councillor says he was encouraged to see that after a long period of seeming inaction, some streetlights were now being fixed in the Botha's Hill area.
AN appreciative Botha’s Hill PR councillor encouraged by service delivery in action has urged residents to make use of the eThekwini Municipality‘s app to report broken or non functional streetlights in the Ward.
Mxolisi Khubisa said he was pushed to make this call after he learnt that on Wednesday, July 30, a municipal technician was in the Ward to fix some streetlights in response to complaints which had been lodged by residents.
Khubisa said what was encouraging is that he, too, has been pressing the municipality for some time to address the issue of faulty or broken streetlights in the Ward.
“There had been a backlog for a long time, so I was surprised when I saw that the streetlights are now being fixed,” said Khubisa.

According to the councillor, he will be in communication with the technician and the Ward committee to co-ordinate an assessment of other sections of the Ward which need attention.
The technician, the councillor added, was focused on Old Main Road and Partner Road this week, and would return to deal with more complaints.
Khubisa said this service delivery issue came to light several times in a community WhatsApp, with some residents claiming streetlights in their areas have not worked for years.
“Streetlights make residents feel safe, which means they can walk at anytime of the day; they help to decrease levels of crime and deter potential criminals. Also, for drivers, they help with visibility at night, so this reduces the chances of accidents,” said Khubisa.
