Primary school thanks Country Club

The school's principal says the R135 000 raised from the club’s charity golf day held earlier in the year is welcomed.

FROM a dysfunctional school to one described as “top notch” and the “epicentre of knowledge” led by a “visionary” principal, Gillitts Primary hosted a thanksgiving lunch on Wednesday for one of their sponsors, the Kloof Country Club’s ladies charity committee.

Expressing gratitude to the school’s sponsors, principal Arti Jadoo said the R135 000 raised from the club’s charity golf day held earlier in the year could not have come at a better time because though there is much to be grateful for, some work still has to be done.

“This has been an amazing year thus far and we are so grateful,” said Jadoo, who explained that the school’s new hall still needs to be connected to the security system, and curtains are needed for it, among other things.

The club’s Lesley Harper said 120 golfers participated in the charity event, which she said was sponsored by “generous businesses and individuals”.

Harper said funds were also raised at the event through a raffle, which she described as the highlight of the day, and an auction.

“It was beyond our wildest imagination and it was because of our incredible community,” said Harper.

Department of Education (DoE) circuit manager Bongumusa Ndaba said the school is an example of how proper and professional management attracts sponsorships.

“I am thankful that the principal of this school is a visionary who went out of her way to source sponsorships. I am also happy that as a non-profit organisation, the Kloof Country Club, from the little that it gets, it was able to give to the school. I am very thankful because this is part of nation building,” said Ndaba.

Jadoo said the school could do with two more classrooms to deal with overcrowding, and some infrastructure upgrades.
