Four arrested for Pinetown garage robbery

The suspects were arrest after the car that they fled in was identified through surveillance footage and number plate recognition.

MEMBERS of the Pinetown Trio Task Team arrested four suspects in connection with an armed robbery that occurred at a garage on Stapleton Road, Pinetown, on September 18.

According to Pinetown SAPS spokesperson Jennifer Naidu, four armed suspects entered the garage just before midnight, threatened employees, and made off with R500 in cash, cigarettes, and cellphones. The suspects fled in a gold Toyota Etios, which was later traced through surveillance footage and number plate recognition.

“The registered owner of the vehicle, located in Phoenix, told the police that he had hired the car out for e-hailing services. The driver was contacted and arrested; he gave police information on the people that hired him.

“One suspect was arrested in Ntuzuma on September 21 in possession of a blank gun. He appeared in court and was remanded in Westville Prison. On September 25, police arrested two more suspects, also in Ntuzuma, following a tip-off. They appeared in court on Friday, September 26,” reported Naidu.

Police are still searching for one remaining suspect.

Naidu commended the Trio Task Team for their swift response and dedication. “The arrests demonstrate our commitment to keeping the Pinetown community safe and ensuring that those who engage in criminal activity are held accountable.”
